The definition of hazing according to Hazing
Prevention is
any action taken or any situation created intentionally that causes
embarrassment, harassment or ridicule and risks emotional and/or physical harm
to members of a group or team, whether new or not, regardless of the person’s
willingness to participate.
Unfortunately, this kind of rituals still exist, even
though the origins of hazing are traced back to Ancient Greece with Plato,
where some men injured and joked about people who got in their way.
Hazing can be seen in so many places, in colleges, at work,
at school, in sports teams, etc., where groups of people haze a person or more.
The only aim of the hazers is to feel powerful by humiliating the others in
front of a crowd that laugh at them. The worst thing about it is that even if
the victims report it, not many people try to stop it or get rid of it. In the
majority of the cases it includes physical injury, kidnapping or
imprisonment, intentionally placing at risk of mental or emotional harm the
person or group who are suffering, but if the hazers lose the control of what they’re
doing it could end up with the death of the victim.
That's why we have to continue acting against hazing.
